Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major epidemiological problem in hospitals throughout the world. Current methodologies of MRSA detection are laborious and time consuming.
The number of MRSA‐associated hospital stays has more than tripled since 2000. MRSA causes about 30% of surgical site infections, 24% of ventilator‐related pneumonia infections, 10% of central line infections, and 2% of urinary catheter‐associated bloodstream infections. Some 70% of all intensive care unit healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are MRSA‐related.
The economic burden of HAIs is sub‐stantial. For inpatient US hospital services, the direct cost per case ranges from $20,549‐$25,903, totaling $36‐$45 billion annually.
Based on QuanDx’s proprietory Yin-Yang Probe technology, the Q-MRSA detection kit is a novel multiplex real-time PCR system for simultaneous detection of all three genes, including six subtypes. Genomic DNA sample and the internal control is co-amplified in one reaction and identified by specific fluorescent probes. The detecting system provides a sensitive, specific, reliable and cost-effective tool that is easy to perform for the routine detection of MRSA.
